I don't appreciate your attitude lately. I have already told you to keep me posted before doing anything important on the wiki once before, yet you ignored what I said again. You disappoint me, Astro. You better get online and talk to me soon.
It's my job as an administrator to improve the wiki, and I needed someone who's actually played the game and who's not getting banned constantly to help me with running it. There's nothing that needs "fixing." Wikis are a team effort, so stop looking down on everyone like you own the place.
I don't think you understand. When I allowed you to adopt the place, we made a deal. I am the one who makes the important decisions and you are the one who overlooks the wiki and edits what needs to be edited. I never told you that you have permission to promote some random user to admin AND BUREAUCRAT status, you idiot.
TeacupGhost is not admin material. He did not need the rights to edit, yet you made the stupid decision to give them to him. Your immaturity and lack of experience as an admin shows. You don't give rights away, especially bureaucrat rights, as a reward to an editor. That's a terrible decision that only a dumbass would make.
Also, you have been extremely inactive as of late. It took you nearly 2 weeks to answer to an urgent message. I'm starting to think that letting you adopt wasn't the best idea. You'd better improve your attitude and your consistency on the wiki, or we will have trouble.
I know you two admins are trying to minimize the images being added, but I'd like to make a case for replacing Shiki's page image with a full CG.
The current image:
- is somewhat blurry.
- does not show up on the Character Category page; as Shiki is the first character listed, this is very noticeable and unprofessional looking.
- appears to be hotlinked (from a bleachfanfiction?), not a proper file on the wiki.
- breaks the formatting cohesiveness of the wiki: Akira, Nano, Motomi, Rin, and even Arbitro all have full CGs at 300px for their page images, while a cropped 200px image is used with side characters like Gunji, Kiriwar, Emma and Gwen. Shiki's current image can't get any bigger, either.
Finally, it not as though Shiki is lacking in CG to use, because the one in his first appearance shows him clearly. (The best single-person CG for his attire is the one where he's going crazy while fighting Gunji and Kiriwar in a bad ending, but I imagine that's not as desirable for other reasons. :P)
Please consider changing it, whether you give me permission to add another image or have one of the admins do it. Thank you.
This image was leftover from before I took over the wiki. So, I simply made use of it while taking care of the more important things that needed to be addressed.
As far as I'm concerned, the image is fine. I'm not sure how that hotlink made sense to the previous editors here, but that should be fixed ASAP. It's embarrassing. Resizing it, while not really an urgent matter by any means, can also be done in mere seconds.
What image do you suggest be used as a replacement?
I think the CG from his first appearance in the game is pretty good. He's turning, but because he's in motion, his coat billows so you can still see the details like his necklaces and the design on his pants. It also displays his katana very prominently, unlike the current image.
Alternatively, his sprite image, if detail is more important than anything else. The current image does not accurately depict the art style used in the original game.
Maybe you could link me to the actual picture so I can see it or something? I do believe the current picture does a good job showing his appearance. Unless you provide me with the actual picture you're considering, I won't be able to make a decision.
Sure thing! This one is his first CG in the original game. This is his sprite image from the original game, which is probably the best option for showing his whole appearance, tbh. I think I like the sprite a little better, but the CG would match Akira, Motomi, etc., so *shrug* You could always use both, and put the sprite down below? I know you're trying to limit images, but his page does have a lot of text... /half-kidding ;D
Anyway you do it, I really hope you consider switching images as well as replacing the hotlink, since what's currently being used is not in the original style shown on almost every other character's page.
(I think the current image lacks the intensity of the character, too. It looks like Shiki, but it also doesn't look like Shiki to me...?)
The problem is, we don't want to use something exclusively from the game or his CG for his profile image, because at this point, Shiki's article is an amalgamation of all his appearances. My vision for character pages in the future is to have seperate versions of the characters as seperate pages, for example game Shiki and anime Shiki would be different articles, but there would still be one disambiguation page, kinda like the stuff they've got going on in the Marvel wiki to distinguish different versions of the same character.
Now, objectively, as far as the first picture goes, it doesn't seem to be an improvement over what we currently have, as his back is turned and you won't really get much when it gets resized to 300px in the template box. The second one, however, I will keep in mind for when we get to what I talked about above with the seperate game and anime versions of characters, as game Shiki's template picture.
Right now, I think the picture we currently have is the best, as long as we resize it and add it as a proper picture on the wiki (remove that hotlink ffs).
... what? But his profile is already is a game image? Sorry, I'm a little tired, so I'm confused: that image is from True Blood, isn't it? Your options are using the edited game vs. original game. I think his sprite looks clearer and more accurate than what is there now... but it's your decision. Will you do the resizing and add the right image in?
This isn't an issue anymore. The removal of the hotlink and resizing of the current picture will be done in due time. It's not really important at the moment and it doesn't seem like Astro is around to "weigh in" anyways.
I just noticed that some incompetent idiot called Jr Mime has been interfering with the wiki and deleting random things. I suspect the reason for that, but I am warning you, if he does something like that again, don't just file a complaint on the VSTF wiki because nothing will happen.
Instead, take a screenshot of it and report the incident to Staff via Special:Contact and ask for his removal from VSTF. Even if it really was accidental, we don't need some clumsy moron messing with our hard work.
At any rate, TeacupGhost has been filling out the character pages with the route information from the games and the manga, and added to the anime episode pages. I've added in pages for the various soundtracks and songs, as well as for the drama CDs. All the stubs have been made into full pages, and all pages now have categories. There's still a few things to do, but the wiki is just about up to date at this point.
How did you conclude I was not around? I always keep an eye on the wiki, even though I've left the editing to you. My message wall is still there for any important decisions that require my consulting.
TeacupGhost has been doing a lot of work, it seems. However, you've given him too much freedom to add pictures and general media in our articles. I'll trust in your judgement for now, but in the future, make sure not to be so lenient with contributors who want to add stuff. We don't want to get gratuitous with images.
Other than that, good work. Your main priority from now on is to lure contributors to our wiki. If we could get partnership with other minor or major wikis with similar content, we should strive for that as well.
Can I swap the page image for the CG of his first appearance? His current one is both too small and... I guess someone thought it'd be funny to upload an edit of him without the mask? That's the last big thing I have left for Arbitro.
(I think I want to do one more full read-through of Arbitro and Rin, and then I'm done with both.)
Yeah, go right ahead! That's actually one I had on my to-do list, but I never got on to doing the major edits for his page. (Which reminds me, I still have to go back and finish Motomi's! I'll try to get on that soon.)
And just let me know when you're ready to close them. Do you have a page you want to work on next?
That'd be great! You can just post them on my page if you like. I read the manga but I stupidly didn't take any notes. >_>
I've locked Arbitro and Rin, and unlocked Akira. There's a few blank spaces there--seems like Nano, Rin, and the common route are all missing at the moment. Motomi's isn't fleshed out enough but I can do that one after I finish with Motomi's page if you'd like.
Once you're done with Akira, I'll unlock Shiki for you.
I'll just post Motomi's manga stuff here (you can see I sorta started writing and then it... totally melts, eheh):
In the manga, Motomi was tipped off about Akira before Akira had even arrived in Toshima. In the first chapter, Motomi watches an Igura battle (falsely rumored to involve Ace tags) in hopes of seeing Akira among the crowd. The Executioners break it up, and Kiriwar steals Motomi’s cigarette as he passes by. Kiriwar threatens him, but leaves Motomi alone after Motomi insists he’s not an Igura participant. In chapter 3, Motomi barely misses meeting Akira at Meal of Duty, and mines the barkeeper for observations about Akira.
In chapter 6, Motomi exchanges information with Gwen, which reveals to Motomi that ENED is involved in Toshima. He already starts considering getting travelling papers to escape when he’s interrupted by Akira. (...)
In chapter 10, he meets up with the group, talks about Arbitro and Il Re, before he pulls Rin aside to talk about Akira (various things). Rin tells Motomi about how meeting Arbitro the other day led to questioning them about the orphanage they grew up in.
He pulls his gun on a line addict to save Akira in chapter 17. In 18, he takes him to the church. This includes a flashback to Motomi digging up information on Akira. Akira parts with Motomi in 19 (brief moment with crazy Keisuke). Ch 22 – chichat with Arbitro.
Oh, you're right! I didn't even notice Rin's section was empty. I'll add in his ending, too. Thanks a lot, I'll get to work soon. ♥
Hey Astro, I wanted to know if I could add a couple images to Rin's page? Most of the ones I want to use are on the wiki already, but I specifically wanted to add the CG with older Rin.
I also went and fleshed out the CFC and Nikkouren pages. They're a bit like ENED in how they include locations, so I wanted to ask your permission to add a couple images from the game to those pages, too.
Hi Astro! I'm all done with everything I wanted to add to Gunji and Kiriwar -- unless you think it'd be a good idea to add one of the normal sprites to their game sections to break the text up a little more? If not, can you please lock their pages and open Kau for editing next? :D
(I have everything I want to add for Kau typed up, so it should be brief this time! There isn't a ton of notable information in either the manga or the anime, really...)
Thank you! I'm almost done with Kau now, but can I have permission to add the CG of Arbitro petting his head, and also to replace the sprite image used as for his page image? That white background is... ehhh... ^^;
Thank you! I looked, but I don't think I have the ability to delete the old Kau jpg? I tried replacing it with a cropped image of his CG before deciding to go with the clearer sprite image, so it looks different, but you can find it under his name. (Unless you think it'd be better to use that cropped image? Up to you.)
Anyway, that is everything I wanted to do with Kau! Can you please lock his page and open Emma for editing?
I finished what I wanted to add to Emma, so can you please lock her down and open Rin next? Most of the stuff I have for him is... pretty minor, some manga info mostly, but there's some gaps and weirdness on his page I'd like to fix, too.
After Rin will be Arbitro, unless you feel up to letting me into two pages at once again? ;)
Sorry for the delay in response--Wikia didn't email me about your message like it usually does.
I locked Emma, and unlocked Rin and Arbitro. You seem to be going at a pretty quick pace so I'm fine with opening both at once! As you can see, I already added most of the game info for Rin, but it'd be good to have a second pair of eyes to go over it.
I'll get to work~ I think Rin's game section looks good, personally. :)
Part of the thing that's been quietly bugging me about Rin's page was this line in the anime section: "Rin continuously seeks out Line in order to prevent others from using it." ... All I can think is, did someone mistake his motives with Motomi's? This misinformation is still on the locked Line page, too.
Go right ahead! I don't have much time to work right now, so I'll probably be back on again in the evening, anyway. I just found a few notes from when I read the manga so I thought I would stick them in real fast.
Well, now Gunji's page is kind of... a wall of text, eh heh, and it'll get worse after his manga section is done. OTL
I was wondering if it would be okay to add some images to Gunji's anime section, and one of their sprite images both of their game sections? The attacking sprite, since it's rarer? I was also wondering if it'd be okay to use Gunji's end CG after being dicreetly cropped. It shows his back tattoo and it's just...such a beautiful image of Gunji! (Kiriwar's doesn't crop half as nice, I've found.)
Wow yeah that is.. a lot of text, haha. Maybe after the wiki is for the most part finished we can go back to character/route pages and pare down some of the text.
Adding in some screenshots and the sprites is fine, but we should be mindful of our rapidly expanding photo library. There's quite a number of screenshots in there now, so we should make an effort to keep it at a reasonable number. (You've done a good job of spacing the screenshots and not using too many per page, but we should still make sure our library doesn't get out of hand. I'm planning to go through later and categorize them, so that should help.)
As for Gunji's end CG--for now, hold off on that one. It'd be good to have a reference for his tattoos on his page, but I think I might have a flat reference sheet of them that would work better/in conjunction with the end CG. I'll look around for it later and let you know.
Sorry, yeah, I like to be thorough. ^^; I will say one way I've seen wikis manage a lot of text is to use tabs and subpages. I've never actually made the tabs myself, but it doesn't look that hard and the end result is nice... but I wasn't sure if Gunji(/Kiriwar) warranted a new page or not.
As for the anime section, I'll pick ones from the screenshots I've already added. (Speaking of: I only have three episodes left - 9 needs images and then expanding 11 and 12. That'll be it for the expanding gallery. Well. I do have an image of Mitsuko and a couple images saved of Rin's blades, if those weapons ever warrant pages of their own.)
Re: back tattoos: I know what you're talking about! It's in the artbook.
Alright. Might as well make one for Mitsuko, and for Gunji's Claws.
As far as I've seen, you've handled the explicit content well. I just realized we hadn't put a rule in place about it yet, and decided to add one for clarification since it's kind of an important topic for this game, haha.
Alright! Pages both for both would round out all the major weapons.
I just made a page for Yukari's Cross, because I saw you made an "Items" category and it's the last major item I can think of outside of weapons. I actually have a rather nice close-up screenshot of the cross while Takeru is wearing it, showing his union jack shirt and some of a tag, but I haven't uploaded yet. Would that be worth using, you think?
Oh, okay. That's a good idea! Especially because, yeah. THIS GAME.
Yeah, it would probably be good to add a game image to the Cross page. I've been trying to include images from the original game on all the pages (minus the anime/manga/drama CDs/etc where it wouldn't apply) since it's the source of the whole franchise.
I've got a bit of time so I'm going to work now, probably focusing on fixing up the soundtrack and drama CD pages since I'm almost done with those. There's a couple more to add, and then a couple of books as well.
I agree that the game should be used whenever possible, but I can't recall (or see) any decent-sized images for the cross? I mean, it's on his sprite, but it's tinyyy? It's one of the things the anime manages to be really useful for, imo.
Anyway, the soundtrack/CDs/books -- sounds great that you're adding them in! The pages look really nice. :D
